• Re: How do I change the sprites of the Platform Starterkit?
I was wondering how I could change the graphics of the player and monsters of the Platform Starterkit, and even make the graphics smaller like 20px x 20px to be exact without messing up the collision or distortion of the game?
Yes you can. You'd change the "MonsterA", ...
  • Re: 2D platformer collision

Have you had a look at the Platform Starter Kit (template) that is installed with XNA GS 3.1? It provides everything you're after.

  • Semi-OT: C# object memory footprints?

Let's assume we have a class that has many methods for performing many complex operations and many fields / properties. Call it "ComplexClass". Also consider "SimpleClass" which only has fields/properties, and "SimpleClassController", which has all the methods needed by "SimpleClass". What is more ...

  • Re: Do Indie Game Developers need better tools?
In general my question boils down to this: do you think there are enough game development tools (map/terrain/tilemap editors, visual User Interface Editors, converters, etc) available specifically for XNA or indie game development in general? If you've used some of them, are you happy with them and if not, ...

  • Method chaining -benefits?

At work I've been porting some Java code over to ASP.NET, and it makes extensive use of method chaining. For example: SelectBoxBuilder.CreateSelectBox().setClass("xxx").setOption("something").setOtherBehavior("different").setSomethingDifferentAgain("xxx);  ...

  • Re: XNA Scripting Language

I integrated Conscript into my version of the Platformer Starter Kit and used it to control most of the runtime gameplay with great success. It took me about 2 hours to get it going and adding language extensions is dead simple. Using tiled as my map editor, I have a separate "trigger" layer which call scripts as needed to spawn enemies, ...

  • Re: Looking for two FAQs

Sigh - don't ask me how I managed to completely miss the Indie Forum. I'm now embarassed :D I'll do some reading and searching on how to use the Guide.

  • Looking for two FAQs

I'm sure I read somewhere about handling controller connects/disconnects, signing in with alternate profiles etc and the tests that indie reviewers apply in this area. I can't find it, but may I suggest it gets posted to the FAQs? I'm also trying to find a "best practices" guide on how our games should manage the ...

  • Re: Profiles, saved games, copying etc

Thanks Jon. I also found last night that you can copy the saved games across profiles without needing a memory unit but the same restriction applies - you get a warning informing you that you cannon continue to earn achievements or gamerpoints for that copy any more. At least I'm only 1/3rd the way into Assassins Creed. Burnout Paradise ...

  • Profiles, saved games, copying etc

Is there any way I can copy saved games etc from one profile to another? Although I've been using XNA since 1.0, I only got a 360 late last year; prior to that I was developing Windows games with XNA. To cut a long story short (i.e. due to my incompetence), I've been using a different profile on the 360 than my HadesSpaniel one. If ...
