    Hi OnekSoft Games,

    What I like about your software :
    - the 3D stacked columns look cool
    - there's no software to install on my computer, it's very easy to use

    What I don't like :
    - I must give you my data. I prefer to use an offline software, so that my sales data doesn't leave my computer
    - There's no way to display the sales data of multiple games (unless I don't understand how)
    - With a big time range (say 2 years), I'm not sure if your 715-pixel-wide image will be wide enough
    - When I do right-click / save-image on the daily-units-by-country image, it does not work, it takes me back to your homepage (with Firefox 11.0)
    - There's no way to display sales & trials on the same graph
    - There's no way to display the ratio of each country to the total sales
    - There's no way to display the developer share in $, or in his own currency

    I don't understand what mySDA is.

    As a conclusion, your software would be more interesting if it included the useful features listed above.

    PS : nice bow tie on your About-page photo ;)

    Hi Maximinus,

    Thanks for the great feedback! :-)

    Just wanted to clarify a few things:

    * I don't retain any data from the Analyzer:
    - the web form submits and displays data only for you to see
    - the Featured section contains voluntary submissions, emailed to me personally

    * the Analyzer is very new and still in development
    - I take requests from all XBLIG developers for feature requests
    - I try to update it periodically
    - Will consider ALL your suggestions on what's missing

    * I made it web-based for several reasons
    - simple deployment for me, works on all platforms
    - no install issues, no DLLs, no version fragmentation

    * mySDA is the Analyzer on steroids
    - mySDA = my Sales Data Analyzer
    - more customization options
    - cached reports and sales ratios

    See FAQ for details: http://oneksoftlabs.com/faq/

    Regards,
    ~OnekSoft Games
    .

    p.s. my wife took the tux pic at our holiday party :-)x

    ... A few more things:

    * the mySDA product will require login in order to upload
    - it will still be free, just like the more basic Analyzer
    - mySDA will host your data, but u choose what to share (or not)
    - if there is enough demand for an offline version, I will consider making a cheap mobile app
    - As usual, your feedback is always welcome! :-)

    Ok, I understand why you made it web-based. It's a legitimate choice. I prefer an offline version, because I don't want you (nor anyone) to have my data, and I don't want my data to travel unencrypted on the web. The fact that you promise not to look at my data doesn't change anything : your software does not need to be web-based, so I prefer an offline visualiser.

    There are a few other issues with a copy-paste, web-based solution : for example, you can't copy/paste the data for multiple games at once. Microsoft reports are very boring to download for multiple-game developers. After I've downloaded them (always in the same directory), I have a bash script that moves them, and launches my software that reads them. What I'm trying to say is, my software overcomes some of the shortcomings of Microsoft reporting system : that they're not friendly at all to download. A web-based solution does not improve on this point.

    Hi Maximinus,

    I have received feedback from other devs that echo your concerns about confidentiality and control/possession of sales data.

    Your Sales Vizu tool is quite mature and continues to serve the needs of those developers who prefer offline software.

    I'll continue to improve the Analyzer with all the suggestions I have been receiving, and (if time permits) would like to create an offline version as well, whether it's a mobile app or a .NET application for Windows.

    Thanks

    Re: XNA Sales Vizu

    Version 2.2 is available, here are the links

    [deprecated, see newer version 2.3 below]

    Screenshot :

    It's build with the XNA framework.

    New features :
    - Much improved performance, the new graph is computed almost instantaneously with my SSD hard drive and 2.8Ghz cpu
    - New layout, with pie charts for game share and country share
    - Auto fetch the daily exchange rate for € and £ with wget and yahoo finance

    You need to create the file %APPDATA%/SalesVizuSettings.txt , with this text, changing the values accordingly :

    Width=1900
    DataDir=Z:\Devel\Data\Xna_Sales
    IncomingDir=Z:\Incoming
    Wget=c:\bin\wget

    If you don't create it, the program will explain that you have to create it and provide a sample.

    Licence : GPL-V2

    Enjoy, feedback welcome!

    Re: XNA Sales Vizu

    There are new countries showing up in the sales data, the version linked above does not support them, it will crash when they're present.

    The fix is to declare the latest countries at the start of the ByCountry.cs source file. It should look like this :

            static readonly String[] Countries =
            {
                "United States",
                "United Kingdom",
                "Canada",
                "France",
                "Germany",
                "Italy",
                "Spain",
                "Sweden",
                "Japan",
                "Singapore",
                "Netherlands",
                "Mexico",
                "Unknown"
            };

    Is Wget a requirement to use it?
    Is the format of the sales file MM_DD_YYYY.csv?

    I am running from source, and I can't get it to start. It doesn't crash but I never see a window with the graphs.
    Nevermind. I got it working, but I don't think I am making the data file correctly. (see question above)

    Nevermind (again ;) I just looked at the source

    dreamwagon:

    No, it's optional, it should not crash if it's not found. Wget is only used to fetch the daily exchange rate.

    Could you manage to have it work for you? Maybe if you don't see any window, it's because of the multiple-monitor handling that spawns the window on the second monitor. Try changing line number 452 in LibMaximinus.cs :

    from
                GraphicsDeviceManager dm = new LibMaximinus.MultiMonitorGraphicsDeviceManager(this, 1);
    to

                GraphicsDeviceManager dm = new LibMaximinus.MultiMonitorGraphicsDeviceManager(this, 0);

    Re: XNA Sales Vizu

    New version 2.3 :

    - Works around the reporting bug : when it detects 2 lines with "same game / same country / same date / same zero-dollar value", then it assumes the line with the lowest count is sales (1$ sales).
    - new time-frame buttons : first 90 days and last 90 days.
    - supports bizarre countries randomly appearing in the reports : Netherlands, Mexico, Ireland
    - does not crash when the user selects a time-frame / game combination with zero sales.
    - smaller height for the game selection buttons. Now it can fit about 25 games with no overlap (previously about 17).
