    XInput Driver Installation Problem

    I assume XInput is part of DirectX?

    Anyways, I tried to install the 32bit XInput Driver on Windows XP. (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0e989b12-576b-42f2-b7c1-2a17ce25188b&DisplayLang=en)

    It didn't work, gave me a useless error, "the installation did not complete".

    I used the command prompt to make it spit out a log, and here's what the log said:

    [log.txt]
    0.625: ================================================================================
    0.625: 2007/05/28 22:26:44.468 (local)
    0.625: c:\b6fa9bb833490c2a4f8565c65fdfbc\update\update.exe (version 6.1.22.4)
    0.656: DoInstallation: InitializeCustomizationDLL() Failed: 0xf0f6
    0.718:  installation did not complete.
    1.515: Message displayed to the user:  installation did not complete.
    1.515: User Input: OK
    1.515: Update.exe extended error code = 0xf0f6
    1.531: Update.exe return code was masked to 0x643 for MSI custom action compliance.

    Can anybody shed some light on what this means?  Or how I can fix it?

    Thanks in advance,
    Brian Levinstein

    If nobody can help me (not that I blame you, I don't mean to be unreasonable) does anybody know of another forum, possibly somewhere I can get MSDN support, where I might be more likely to get an answer?

    Thanks,

    I had this problem too - really annoying! After a lengthy search of the internet i did manage to find and installer that worked (it was a 3.6mb file instead of 800kbish). I still have the file on disk so if you wanna leave your email address i'd be happy to send it to you :)

    I'm not sure where you found it but all be warned that unless it came from a Microsoft website that MS won't support anything you do with it and its up to you to verify safeness. Good luck.

    Re: XInput Driver Installation Problem

    I'm sending a message to microsoft support, but they are usually pretty useless with anything more than the simplest of computer problems, so I don't expect much.  My e-mail is bmad6 (a) aol (.) com, if you wouldn't mind sending me the installer.

    Thanks,

    After a quick google search, I found this discussion (http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=738685&SiteID=1) (interestingly, your name popped up again, ZMan) which directed me here (http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/gaming/download.mspx) so I'm gonna try that.

    UPDATE: I installed that driver, and it worked like a charm. =D  I wrote up a quick example program to test it out, and all the buttons and sticks and triggers are working correctly.

    Thanks for your help,
